UYIR’s Mega Road Safety Drive Reaches Over 5,000 Motorists in Coimbatore ; Campaign Urges Drivers to Stay Away from Mobile Phones Behind the Wheel

Reinforcing the message that a moment’s distraction can cost a life, UYIR organised a Mega Road Safety Awareness Campaign at Gandhipuram Signal in Coimbatore on Friday, urging motorists to refrain from using mobile phones while driving. The large-scale initiative, conducted in association with volunteers from College UYIR Clubs, reached over 5,000 motorists and road users across the city.
Held from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon under the supervision of the Coimbatore City Traffic Police, the campaign focused on educating motorists about the dangers of distracted driving and promoting responsible road safety practices without disrupting the regular flow of traffic.
During the programme, volunteers interacted with motorists at traffic signals, explaining the serious risks associated with mobile phone usage while driving. Drivers and riders who were found following traffic regulations were appreciated and encouraged for their responsible road behaviour. Road safety handbills carrying key safe driving messages were also distributed to the public.
Speaking on the occasion, Rtn. D. Balasundaram, Trustee of UYIR, said, “Road safety begins with responsible individual behaviour. Avoiding mobile phone usage while driving is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to prevent accidents and save lives. Through such awareness initiatives, UYIR aims to build a stronger culture of safe and responsible driving. The campaign witnessed the participation of 60 UYIR Club volunteers from VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science and Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women, who collectively reached out to nearly 5,000 motorists and road users.

The Coimbatore City Traffic Police extended their full support to the initiative and appreciated UYIR’s community-driven efforts towards strengthening road safety awareness in the city.
