Villagers stranded as flood washes away bridge

People from as many as 10 villages were stranded as heavy floods washed away a connecting bridge between Madhampatti and Thondamuthur near Siruvani here on Saturday.

It may be noted that the bridge had earlier been repaired after flood waters washed away the broken bridge after heavy rains last week. A new and temporary bridge was laid and even that was washed away by the flood in river Noyyal. The people of the area have shown contempt saying that the district administration has failed to lay a permanent bridge in the area. As more rains are expected in the Siruvani catchment areas with the north east monsoon expected to continue, people have urged the administration to give them a permanent solution.
