Water from Aliyar dam released

Water was released today from the Aliyar dam for irrigation and drinking water requirements in Pollachi, and areas of Kerala.
Releasing the water under Parambikulam-Aliyar project today, Tamil Nadu Assembly deputy speaker, Pollachi V. Jayaraman said that 2,440 c.ft. of water will be for irrigation purpose in Pollachi area, 7,250 cft for Kerala, and 1,387.58 million cft for the drinking water consumption of Pollachi town.
In all, about 11,077.58 million cft of water will be released until April 15, 2017. According to the official release, the water will benefit 6,400 acre of land in Pollachi, and 150 cft will be released for drinking purpose.
