Woman constable immolates self

A 35-year old woman constable, attached to the Armed Reserve, here today committed suicide by self immolation near her house in Perur in the city.

Kala, whose husband died some five years ago, was staying with her parents and was on two months leave, undergoing treatment for some health problem, police said.

She came out of the house in Anaigoundenpudur in the morning and suddenly doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze.

Hearing the screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and poured water, but Kala died on the spot, police said.

The charred body has been taken to the Government Hospital for post mortem and further investigations are on, they said.
