A woman in Papanasam taluk on Sunday forcibly fed poison to her two children before killing herself by consuming the same.

Kalaiyarasi (35), resident of Pananthidal village in Papanasam taluk, resorted to this extreme step following a quarrel with her husband.

The couple had two daughters – Lasiya (3) and Lakshitha (3 months). Lasiya was studying LKG in a matriculation school in Govindangudi village.

According to police, frequent quarrel erupted between Kalaiyarasi and her husband Rajasekaran, a farmer. A similar quarrel broke out between the couple on Sunday, after which Rajasekar went to his field.

A dejected Kalaiyarasi, who decided to end her life, forced her two children to drink the poison and she too consumed the same.

Her neighbours who accidentally came to her house were shocked to find Kalaiyarasi and the children lying on the floor with froth on their mouths. Kalaiyarasi was rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital while her children were admitted to Rajah Mirasudar Government Hospital in Thanajvur. Kalaiyarasi and Lasiya died last night, while Lakshitha died this morning.

Based on a complaint by Kalaiyarasi’s father Karuppaiyan of Thirukkarukkavur village, Papanasam police have registered a case and are investigating.
