More than 500 cab operators stayed off the roads in Nilgiris on Monday urging the administration not to permit Uber and Ola cabs to operate in the district.

The members, all members of Nilgiris District Tourist Drivers and Owners Association, appealed to the authorities to take action against those who ply their two-wheelers for rent.

“There is no parking space for the existing vehicles in important tourist spots. Authorities should make arrangements for additional parking lots. The condition of roads at Dodabetta, Paikara, Boat House and Avilanche is very bad. Those roads should be repaired or relaid immediately,” they said. The members also staged a protest.
