The 8 lane highway between Salem and Chennai is turning into a controversy with the arrest of several activists including Piyush Manush, Valarmathy and Mansoor Ali Khan. While the government is adamant on going ahead with the project citing economic development, farmers, environmentalists and lorry owners association are against the project claiming that it would destroy thousands of acres of farmlands and forests.
