Most of the men in this colony situated in Sowripalayam in Coimbatore earn their livelihood as manual scavengers despite the fact being that this job has been snuffing out several lives. With no protective gear and all for the Rs 2,000 they get, they intoxicate themselves and go down the septic tanks. The manual scavengers in CMC colony speak to The Covai Post on camera following the death of two of their fellow dwellers who were asphyxiated when they attempted to clean a septic tank belonging to a housing unit.
