After Periyar, it is the turn of Ambedkar in Tamil Nadu. Now miscreants desecrate Ambedkar statue in Chennai

Chennai: After the statue of Periyar, in Tamil Nadu it is the turn of Dr Ambedkar statue that was desecrated late on Wednesday night.

Unknown miscreants had on Wednesday night poured red paint over the statue of Ambedkar located at the market place on Gramam street in Tirovttiyur in Chennai. The incident came to light early Thursday morning when shopkeepers came to open their shops.

Police is checking the CCTV footage for clues. A case against unknown persons has been filed and police is investigating.

“We will arrest the culprits soon,” a local police officer. As present, the police believe it to the handiwork of a local person or persons.

After condemnation by entire political class, including Kamal Haasan, president MNM, Rajinikanth on Thursday tweeted his condemnation saying that “desecration of a statue is barbaric.”

Chief Minister Edapaddi Palaniswami also condemned the incident and tried to absolve Raja of any serious wrong doing. BJP leader H Raja had called for destroying statues of Periyar and soon a BJP worker was involved in desecrating the statue of Periyar at Tirupathur in Vellore on day before yesterday night.

The CM condemned the incident said that Raja must apologise publicly.
