Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi Palaniswami on Saturday declared that the central government must set up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee as ruled by the Supreme Court.

“Our government has clearly communicated this to the central government at a meeting called by the union water resources ministry,” the chief minister said in a statement issued here today.Tamil Nadu MPs are protesting in Delhi seeking the setting up of the CMB and the regulatory committee.

The SC has clearly said in its February 16 order that a scheme has to be drawn to implement the final award and other orders of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal given on February 5, 2007. While others may interpret the word scheme as something else, it is clear that it is nothing but setting up the CMB and the committee, the chief minister said.

Other than reducing the share of TN a little, the Supreme Court has not changed anything in the order given by the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal.

The SC had ordered the central government to set up the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee within six weeks.
