DMK to move court if bye-elections not held for all 21 vacancies in Assembly

Chennai : The DMK on Monday said it will move the court if Election Commission fails to hold bye-elections to all the 21 vacant seats. The poll body had yesterday came out with schedule stating that it will hold bye-elections in only 18 constituencies along with the Lok Sabha polls.

At a meeting of party MPs, MLAs and district secretaries the DMK took a decision to urge the ECI to hold elections in all the 21 vacant seats for the assembly.

On Sunday, TN CEO Satyabrata Sahoo told press persons about the decision to hold bye-elections in 18 seats.

Three seats of Ottapidaram, Thiruparankundram and Aravakuruchi are at present locked up in a legal tussle and hence polling cannot be held to fill these three vacancies.

Meanwhile the AIADMK began interviewing candidates who applied for nomination to contest on party ticket for the Lok Sabha elections in the state.

The AIADMK said in a statement that the deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and Chief Mnister E Palaniswami were interviewing the candidates.

The candidates had sent in their applications to contest from 10 Lok Sabha seats of Salem, Kallakurichi, Namakkal, Karur, Erode, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Pollachi and Villupuram.
