Three persons were killed when a security vehicle, part of convoy of TN Governor Banwarilal Purohit ran over pedestrians at New Kalpakkam road near Mahabalipuram on Friday afternoon.

A Raj Bhavan press statement asserted that the vehicle involved in the accident was in fact a security vehicle used as an advance pilot and had departed from the convoy when the accident took place. It would be wrong to say that convoy of governor was involved in the accident, the Raj Bhavan statement said. The governor was returning from Cuddalore after meeting officials of the district there.

Three persons a 12 year old boy Karthi, one man Suresh (35) and Kausalya (62) died and another person injured in the accident involved the Bolero vehicle. Police have registered a case and are investigating.

“It is clear that the vehicle that met with an accident was entirely on its own and was not part of the convoy of the Honrable governor,” the Raj Bhavan release said.
