The Madras High Court on Thursday directed the public prosecutor to get instructions from Tamil Nadu Police in connection with a petition seeking orders to register a case against actor Kamal Haasan for his ‘Hindu terrorism comments published by a vernacular magazine.

When the plea, filed by an advocate clerk G. Devarajan, came up for hearing, Justice M.S. Ramesh issued direction to the government counsel to get the required information from the police with regard to the actor’s statement and posted the case to next week.

Devarajan, in his petition, alleged that the actor, through his comments was trying to brand “Hindus as terrorists”. Accusing him of attempting to divide the Tamil community on the basis of religion, Devarajan said no religion advocates terrorism.

The petitioner said that no action was taken against the actor despite lodging a complaint with the police. He also sought action against the editor of the magazine that published the actor’s comments.
