Kiran Bedi cracks the whip; this time on police asking it to rid Puducherry of rowdyism of all kinds

Former IPS official and Puducherry governor Kiran Bedi on Saturday delved into her past policing experience to begin another campaign – making Puducherry safe for people.

The governor personally oversaw the recovery of land illegally usurped by a rowdy from the real owners and handed it over to the rightful owners. The rowdy, Senthil, is at present in jail in a murder case.

While reviewing the case, Kiran Bedi who has had served the Indian police in various capacities and is well versed with the working of the police force, on Saturday issued a set of instructions to the Puducherry police, putting the system on notice. She gave to the police force, through the DGP, a set of instructions that call for rigorous policing to make Puducherry crime free.

Firstly, she said, Puducherry must be made free of dowdyism.

She instructed that the DGP along with his district SPs shall conduct police station inspections of records and any criminal absconding or declared a Proclaimed Offender all efforts be made to trace the person concerned. This progress made by respective SHOs be tracked in weekly crime reviews, she said.

Kiran Bedi said that she would personally review the progress in the first week of February.

Based on police crime station, those involved in violent crimes be brought under active surveillance by opening personal files/ history sheets/ action under section 110 G of CRPC be contemplated for crime prevention, she said.

“The history sheets must have the names of the associates whoever they be. No one will be spared. Puducherry must stop making rowdism a source of employment for the unemployed,” Bedi asserted. Anyone with Past record their sureties be verified. And seen if they are able to exercise due control or else move for cancellation of their surety, Kiran Bedi said in her instructions.

In a note sent to the chief secretary and the DGP, the Lt Governor sought strict compliance of her instructions.
