Chennai : Tamil Nadu people can now celebrate Deepavali early in the morning. The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed bursting firecrackers in the morning by people of Tamil Nadu as per their traditions and customs.

Modifying its earlier order in the issue, the apex court said the revised timing will be applicable in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry only when people can burst crackers for two hours.

People from North Indian origins living in TN can follow their traditions and burst crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm as per earlier court ruling.

A two member bench comprising Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan observed that the direction for permitting the use of green crackers was meant for the Delhi-NCR region and was not applicable for all over India,

The apex court was hearing several applications filed by the Tamil government and firecracker manufacturers seeking modification and clarification of its October 23 order.

On Monday, the Tamil Nadu government moved the SC praying that its people be allowed to burst firecrackers on Diwali morning in accordance with religious practices in the state, besides the already permitted 8 pm to 10 pm period.
