With police and public wanting to help the family of Maduravoyal Inspector S.Periyapandian who was shot dead by a gang of looters in Rajasthan when he had gone there to nab them, the Chennai Commissioner of Police (CoP) A.K.Viswanathan has formed a welfare committee to collect the funds and hand it over to the slain cop’s kin.

The committee comprises Deputy Commissioners R.Thirunavukkarasu, S.Saravanan and additional DC S.Loyola Ignatius.

“Many cops expressed their willingness to help the late inspector’s family. Hence, the Commissioner took the initiative and formed a committee to channelise the contributions. The announcement was informally shared among police personnel in whatsapp groups. The message spread to the public too. If they want to contribute, they too can,” Thirunavukkarasu told The Covai Post.
