Even as excitement is palpable among Thalaiva fans, who cut across political lines, on the eve of his expected announcement of his political stand, more than half the respondents in a state-wide survey thought it might not be good idea for the superstar Rajinikanth to enter politics at this stage.

While half of the respondents in a survey undertaken by a private channel – Cauvery News- NewX – wanted him not to enter politics, most of the respondents also felt that he would align with the BJP.

The channel said in a press statement that a sample size of 4463 was surveyed over Rajinikanth’s political plans. A little over half of the respondents do not want him to enter politics and an equal number of respondents said he will not make a good chief minister.

But Rajinikanth could start his own party and align with an existing political party. Nearly half the respondents felt he would associate with the BJP and a lowly 7 per cent felt he would ally with the AIADMK. There were 4 per cent respondents who said he could ally with TTV Dhinakaran.

While over half the respondents had no problems with film stars entering politics, but said that his political inexperience would be a drawback.

The survey was conducted across Tamil Nadu and had a total of 4463 respondents. These included 3535 men and 920 women.

The survey was conducted between 3 pm on the 29th and 3 pm on the 30th of December 2017, the channel said in a statement.
