Sivakasi firecracker manufacturers announce indefinite shutdown

Around 1,400 cracker factories in Sivakasi are to be shut indefinitely.

According to the functionaries of the fireworks manufacturers association, said the recent SC order on cracker bursting timings has made life difficult for them.

Though TN government had approached the court for extension cracker bursting period the court declined to do so.

The firecracker unit federation said due to the limited time period for bursting crackers people were not buying crackers.

Due to this the sale of crackers has nosedived.Huge quantities of crackers made for this years Deepavali are rotting in the godowns.

SC had also asked the cracker manufacturers to make “Green Crackers” but the manufacturers said in crackers there is no such thing like Green Crackers..

“Because of SC orders we are left with no choice but to close around 1,400 cracker units indefinitely,” the association said.

According to the association because of closure of these fire cracker factories lakhs of people will lose livelihood .

Sivakasi will die a sudden death, the association said.
