Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami on Tuesday said that the Tamil Nadu government was examining a proposal to set up floating solar power plant, which would also reduce evaporation of reservoir water. For the present the government is undertaking feasibility studies on this project.
Palaniswami made this announcement in the assembly and said the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) along with another company will study the feasibility of setting up 250 MW floating solar power plant at an outlay of Rs.1,125 crore.

This aspect would be woven into the new Energy Policy, the TN government is working on. The policy will take forward former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s thoughts and actions on alternative energy and will be aligned with the Vision Tamil Nadu 2003 document that she had released. The Vision document had set a target of 8,884 MW of solar power capacity by 2023.
The Vision Tamil Nadu 2023 was released by late Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa in 2012.
