Actor Vijay Sethupathi who recently joined hands with Anil products as their brand ambassador is donating about Rs 50 lakh from his brand endorsement payment for supporting anganvadis in Ariyallur and schools for the visually and hearing impaired children across the State. Vijay said he was doing this in the memory of Anitha who committed suicide because she failed in the entrance exam and could not fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.

“About 774 anganvadis in Ariyalur will receive Rs 5,000 each, 10 schools for visually impaired in Tamil Nadu will receive Rs 50,000 each and 11 schools for hearing impaired will get Rs 50,000 each. The Ariyalur Government aided school for hearing impaired will get Rs 50,000 from this fund,” he said.

The donations would amount to Rs 49.7 lakh and he said the information he received was that Ariyalur was a district backward and hence he decided to donate the funds for anganvadis there. The amounts would be handed over to the State Government through the Ariyallur District Collector today. Vijay Sethupathi was one of the actors who strongly condemned Anitha’s death.

He made this announcement at a rebranding event organised by Anil Products in Dindugal yesterday. The brand has been into vermicelli business for 33 years and launched five new flavours yesterday where Vijay Sethupathi was named brand ambassador.
