A Sri Lankan refugee, working as a construction labourer, stabbed four people at the refugee camp in Pooluvapatti in Alanthurai on Monday night

According to police, the accused Ivan alias John N (25) was consuming alcohol with his friend Raghuvaran P (29), during which time he abused the latter’s father in foul language. A quarrel ensued between the two. Raghuvaran’s father Peethambaram and other relatives tried to pacify both of them.

Ivan, who went to his house, returned with a knife and stabbed Peethambaram, Raghuvaran and his relative Santha Roopan. Menaka, their neighbour who tried to intervene, was also injured in the attack. Ivan fled the scene.

The four were taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where Menaka was treated as out patient. The Alanthurai police registered a case under Section 294 (b), 324, 307, 506 (ii) of IPC.
