Motorists have thanked the city police for opening the Brooke Bond for two-way traffic. The road, that was made one way two years ago to reduce traffic congestion, was opened for two-way traffic on Saturday last by the City Police Commissioner K. Periaiah.

The new system, motorists say, help them in saving a lot of time. Vedha Vikas, an engineer, says by making the road two-way police has helped the motorists in a big way. “The new arrangement helps me save a lot of time. Earlier I use to take Sukrawarpet Road to reach Mettupalayam Road. It would be a really tiring ride as the road was always congested with traffic. The road was also narrow and I used to take Town Hall and Flower Market area,” he said.

Welcoming the decision, C.M. Jayaraman, President, Citizen Voice Club said, ”The traffic has come down considerably in the Sukrawarpet–Mill Road stretch. The City Police should also take steps to make better use of the Devanga High School Road and Syrian Church Road. Making these roads into one way to reach Mettupalayam Road will ease the traffic,” he said

Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Sujit Kumar said the department was planning to fix a mini signal controller at the Kikani School traffic junction. “The police personnel can control it manually and change signals based on the traffic,” he said.
