The amount of plastic waste has drastically come down thanks to various steps initiated by District Collector Innocent Divya. The District Collector had recently passed an order banning 15 plastic products used in large quantities in shops and at homes in the town, especially tourist spots. Shops have stopped selling eatables in plastic plates, while tea shops have replaced plastic cups with those made out of natural things. The ban has been welcomed not only by the localities, but also by tourists who throng the district in large numbers.
