Rise in chain snatching incidents cause concern; special teams formed.

Coimbatore : With chain snatching incidents on the rise, several teams from the crime branch and Law and Order have been pressed into service to monitor vulnerable areas.

The teams will be headed by an Inspector and a Sub Inspector. As motorists are involved in the crime, CCTV footages recovered from several places are being analysed. Preventive measures are being undertaken and police personnel are being deployed zone-wise. Fifty armed reserve personnel are being pressed into service to work with the special teams. The police is undertaking patrols during the day, besides what is usually done during nights. Additional Check posts have been set up for vehicle checks. Round the clock vehicle checks are being done in 11 check posts. Vehicle checks are also being undertaken at Vellalore and Kuniamuthur.
