COIMBATORE: ‘Medinexus’, an app that exclusively deals with childhood obesity was launched here during the fourth international diabetes and endocrine conference that began here on Saturday.

More than 70 doctors, health care professionals and students are participating in the two-day meet – DECON 2018 – that was inaugurated by the conference Chairman, Dr. Suresh Damodaran, Dr. A Ramachandran and Dr. Issac Moses. The theme of this year’s meet is Childhood Obesity.

“Awareness on diabetes is more these days. Still people should learn how to prevent the disease. That is the need of the hour. More awareness should be spread on the right diet and proper medication,” Dr. Damodaran, who has organised the seminar jointly with Covai Obstetrics Gynaec Society, said.

According to Dr. Isaac Moses of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, the major challenge before India now is diabetes. “Diabetes and obesity are challenges which our country needs to tackle. Thee are developments taking place in these areas too,” he added.

In his address, Dr. A. Ramachandran outlined the advances made in treating diabetes and other diseases related to diabetes.
