Karnataka elections: 23 candidates face women harassment cases

Bengaluru: The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has said that 23 candidates, who are facing cases of women’s harassment, are contesting in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.

A special report has been prepared based on the affidavits submitted by the candidates on their criminal background, education, economical background, gender and other information, said the Election Vision Mission Officer of ADR, Professor Thrilochan Shastry.

It has been announced in the affidavit of 23 candidates that they are facing cases of harassment on women, mental torture, and sexual harassment against women. Among the 2,560 candidates, 391 (15%) have said that they have criminal cases filed against them.

A total of 254 (10%) candidates are facing serious criminal cases and 25 candidates are accused of murder. Among the crime accused candidates, 83 are in BJP, 59 in Congress, 41 in JDS, and 5 each are in JDU and AAP.
