Coimbatore: Growing environmental concerns have resulted in better demand for organic and biodegradable products and platforms to make them available like trashkart.com of young Pollachi-based innovator Rahul M which has turned a big hit, making him a youth icon.

His organisation is an emerging brand which focuses on sale of eco-friendly and organic products and at reasonable prices. The products include toxin-free edible items. “After completing my diploma I used to work at many places just to earn money to support my project says,” Rahul (21), the CEO of the company, told The Covai Post. His website and mobile app have had good response.

The first product introduced was the non-plastic bag which looks like plastic `but is not’. These bags are made from vegetable starch and are completely biodegradable in 3-4 months. They contain no polyolefin and can be printed and shaped like regular poly carry bags, replacing the normal plastic ones.

His firm Independent Indian Invention Publisher later launched eco-napkins made from spinach with anti-microbes, freeing women from the fear of side effects like cervical cancer from the regular types.

Home gardening products and plant hangers made from coir have also been made available. Trashkart also has unique varieties of trendy and eco-friendly kitchen applications like clay idli cookers and dining sets, attractive and affordable.

“This was my dream project and now I am really proud and happy that it has become true. I feel proud because I had got rejected whenever I approached people with this idea. Nowadays, many colleges invite me to motivate students and guide them” says Rahul.
