Coimbatore: Seeking withdrawal of the case registered against the reporter of Tamil News Channel, Puthiya Thalamurai, a group of mediapersons today staged a demonstration in front of the District Collector’s office.

Covering their mouth with black clothes, journalists and cameramen, including a few women, raised slogans against police action in registering `false’ cases against the reporter and also the channel, which they termed as the attack on press freedom.

A round table organised by the channel on June 8 in the city was disrupted by the members of BJP and Hindu Munnani for remarks made by Tamil film director Ameer Sultan, after which police registered cases against the channel, reporters, Ameer and U Thaniyarasu, MLA.

Mediapersons also took out a procession to the office of the Police Commissioner and raised slogans against police action.

They later submitted a memorandum to Collector T N Hariharan and sought his intervention and appealed him to talk to the Chief Minister and take steps to withdraw the ‘false case’.
