Chain-snatching unabated in Coimbatore, ex-inspector robbed of 8-sovereign necklace

Coimbatore: An eight-sovereign gold chain was robbed from R Indhrani (62), a retired police inspector, at Ganapathy in the city on Friday.

Two unidentified persons robbed Indrani’s chain when she was walking near her house at Ganapathy. Residents nearby rushed to the spot on hearing her scream. The accused fled with his accomplice who was on a motorcycle. On information, Saravanampatty police registered case and began search for the accused.

The same gang also attempted to snatch the chain from Maheswari, school teacher od Sundarapuram in Podanur. When she was walking near her house, an unidentified person came from behind and tried to snatch her chain. When she screamed, the robber fled the scene, sources said.

According to the CCTV footages from the places, it is found that the same gang had been involved in several robbery incidents in the city.
