Coimbatore : Police are on the look out a person, who had given a colour xerox of a Rs.2000 note to a shop and took away Rs.12,000 after diverting the attention of a woman, near Sulur on the city outskirts.

According to police, a person in a car handed over the duplicate currency last night to the 65-year old woman, who was manning the shop, and sought cigarrette and water bottle.

As the woman turned to take the bottle, the man removed Rs.12,000 from the cash box and sped away in his car, they said.

The woman immediately lodged a complaint with the police, who rushed to the shop and surprised to see the fake currency.

Police are going through the CCTV footage in the area to nab the person.
