Coimbatore : A group of ruling AIADMK workers today laid siege to a theatre screening the Vijay starrer Tamil film ‘Sarkar’ seeking its ban as it ‘denigrated’ former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and had scenes burning the freebies given to the people of the State.

The workers staged a demonstration in front of the theatre and tore banners and flex boards and demanded immediate arrest of director AR Murugadas, police said.

They claimed that the freebies like mixers and grinders, the brainchild of Jayalalithaa, were seen burnt in the film,.

They took objection to the producer (Kalanidhi Maran of Sun Television channel) not burning TV sets given by DMK as freebies, and felt the film was clearly to tarnish the image of AIADMK and Jayalalithaa.
