CITU-affiliated Coimbatore District Mill Workers Union organised mass protest, accusing the NTC administration of adopting anti-labour attitude.

The CITU has charged that the management of public sector industries like NTC, which should be a rolemodel for the private sector companies, are, on the contrary, adopting anti-labour attitude due to the destructive policies of the central and state governments.

Ignoring and appealing against the court judgement that the trade unions that have secured 10 percent or more votes in the union elections should be invited for negotiations on labour issues, the NTC management had failed to invite the unions for talks in the past one year and continues to make unilateral decisions on various issues. While claiming that the mills are incurring losses, the officers are indulging in extravagant expenditures like travel by air.

The rally was held under the leadership of District CITU Secretary S. Arumugam. Various speakers, including, District Mill Workers Union general secretary C. Padmanabhan, president Manoharan, and treasurer Ramamoorthy, addressed the gathering.

Slogans were raised demanding equal wages for all the daily wage workers in the textile mills, modernisation of NTC mills, the running of all the three shifts, and the removal of all the retired employees from the administrative office.

Earlier, the district leaders of CITU and Mill Workers Union presented a memorandum of their demands to the NTC Managing Director, Arulsamy.
