Driver attacked violently; robbed of gold chain and cash

Two persons on a motorcycle waylaid a goods-lorry driver in Peelamedu, and attacked him with a knife. They then fled after robbing his cash and snatching his gold chain away.

Janakar, the driver, was on his way to Peelamedu from his house in Ramanathapuram to Peelamedu at around 7 AM, when the robbers stopped their motorcycle in front of his vehicle. They attacked Janakar with a knife and injured him. They then proceeded to remove Rs.8500 cash from his person and snatched his gold chain weighing five sovereign, and fled.

Passersby noticed the injured and unconscious driver and called the police, who admitted Janakar to the Government Hospital. The police have registered a case and investigations are on.
