The Primary Health Centre in Ambalamula and the Government Hospital at Gudalur witnessed tense situation when relatives stormed the premises following the death of a woman and her newborn baby this morning.

24-year old Sujatha was admitted for delivery at the Centre last night. Soon she gave birth to a baby boy. The relatives, including her husband, were stunned when they were told by the health centre workers in the morning that both the mother and the newborn had died.

Nearly 150 relatives rushed to the centre to find out the truth, since the mother and the baby were hale and healthy the previous night. They lodged a complaint with the local police.

The relatives accompanied the bodies when they were taken to the Government Hospital at Gudalur for postmortem. The family members refused to receive the bodies until the guilty were punished. They left only after the RDO, Venkatachalam, arrived at the hospital and assured them that action will be taken against those responsible.
