GATE 2019 paper analysis by applicants: Let’s see how the exam went

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras conducted the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2019 today, on February 2. Apart from this, the GATE 2019 will also be conducted on February 3, 9 and 10 at various centres across the nation.

The India Today Education team went to the exam centre and spoke to various candidates who appeared in the exam. Here is what candidates want to say about the paper-

The level of the question paper:

1. Firstly, the level of the paper was quite tough as compared to the previous year papers as well as prevalent expectations before the paper.

2. As per the candidates, the questions asked in the paper were tricky. They were mainly designed to analyse how well candidates had understood the basic concepts.

3. Some applicants said that the numeric questions were quite tough and lengthy which made it difficult for the applicants to finish the paper on time.

4. Many candidates found the section of General Aptitude easier while some of them found the questions related to Quantum really tough.

Lengthy paper:

Some candidates found it difficult to finish the paper on time while some could easily complete it. As per the candidates, there were a lot of questions related to numeric values which, in a way, consumed a lot of time and it became difficult for candidates to manage time accordingly.

While the views on the level of the paper were consistent, it was hard to ascertain which section was tougher as everybody had their own subjective views.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and technology.

The exam is conducted for admissions into post-graduate programmes in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and other government agencies.
