At least 40 tamers injured, best tamer gets car, bike and two house plots

Coimbatore : At least 40 tamers were injured in the Jallikkattu held at Chettipapalayam on the outskirts Sunday, in which 740 bulls and 1,700 tamers across the State participated.

The 2nd edition of Jallikattu, taming the bull, was inaugurated by State Municipal Administration Minister, S P Velumani, in the presence of over 40,000 spectators.

Of the injured 20 were admitted to various hospitasl, while the remaining were treated as out patients, official sources said.

 A few bulls also sustained minor injuries, they said.

Karthik of Madurai, who tamed 13 bulls was adjugged as the best tamer and received prizes of a car, a motorcycle and two house plots.

A two minute silence was observed before the start to pay homage to the 44 CRPF personnel who lost their lives in JeM IED attack at Pulwama.

Earlier talking to reporters, Velumani said that the traditional brave sport of Tamil Nadu is being held at sprawling 300 acres of land and nearly 2,500 police personnel are providing tight security cover.

Jallikattu was organised by the district administration and Coimbatore Jallikattu Federation, which had arranged all the facilities, including medical — an ambulance in case of emergency and 15-member doctor team to provide first aid to those injured, he said.
