Coimbatore : As part of security measures for the coming Lok Sabha elections, a joint meeting of the district and police officials of Coimbatore and Palakkad in neighbouring Kerala will be held during next week, Coimbaore District Collector P Rajamani said Monday.

The decision was taken to tackle the suspected movement of Naxals in bordering areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala like Attapadi and Anaikatti and the meeting will evolve strategy in this regard and the need for the support from police and district officials from both sides, Rajamani said.

Talking to reporters after an all political party meeting on the election mode of conduct, he said that the administration was geared up to conduct the free and fair elections and necessary security will be in place.

Compared to 275 sensitive booths during the 2016 assembly polls, the administration has identified 470 such booths of which 117 are highly sensitive, where CRPF personnel will be deployed, he said.

With 10 assembly constituencies coming under the district, 90 team of flying squads have already been formed with nine teams carrying out duty in each constituency in three shifts a day to monitor the possible code violations, including money transactions, Rajamani said.
