Coimbatore : A three-tier security cover has been thrown in and around the Government College of Technology (GCT), where the EVMs of Coimbatore and Pollach Lok Sabha constituencies have been kept in strong-rooms until the day of counting on May 23.

A large posse of personnel from CRPF and Armed Police will keep vigil in the area, which was sealed this morning by the District Collector K Rajamani in the presence of the candidates of different parties and independents, along with election department officials.

Over 800 police persons in three shifts will keep a tight watch around the strong-rooms, while more than 115 CCTV cameras have been kept at strategic points around the college, official sources said.

Compared to 68 per cent of votes in 2014 parliamentary election, Coimbatore registered 63.99 per cent this time, while Pollachi polled 70.78 per cent as against 73 per cent in 2014.
