Ahead of Deepavali, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital has urged the public to prioritise eye safety while celebrating the festival, warning that firecracker-related injuries can cause serious damage to vision, even when external symptoms appear minor.
Dr. Praveen Dhanapal, Head – Clinical Services, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, cautioned that firecracker accidents can result in corneal abrasions, burns, internal bleeding, retinal damage and, in severe cases, permanent vision loss. He advised people not to rub, press or attempt to remove foreign particles from an injured eye and to seek immediate medical attention.
The hospital also highlighted preventive measures, including maintaining a safe distance while bursting crackers, wearing protective gear, avoiding unsupervised firecracker use by children and keeping water and sand nearby to handle emergencies.
The public has been advised not to ignore symptoms such as eye pain, redness, blurred vision, excessive watering or sensitivity to light following a firecracker incident.
Emergency eye care services will remain available at Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital during Deepavali.
