Six-day Craft Bazaar begins in Coimbatore

Coimbatore : Craft Bazaar, organised by Craft Council of Tamil Nadu, began here today.

There is a special focus on textiles and artefacts from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana – khadi, Mangalgiri, Narayanpet, Uppada, pen kalamkari, ikkat, Pochampalli, Venkatgiri, Pedan kalamkari sarees and yardage kalamkari and herial paintings, leather puppets, wood carving, wooden cutlery, Warangal durries, etikopaka and Kondapalli toys – at the six-day bazaar, which has over 100 stalls, including those from Assam and Kerala.

The council has been instrumental in bringing out documentation of temple jewellery and household articles and publication of the art of garland-making.

The event was inaugurated by council president Jayashree Ravi.

It has been associated in product development with stone, palm leaf and sheet metal craftsmen.

Through the bazaar, the council provides a platform to craftspeople (both textiles and handicrafts) from all over the country to exhibit and sell their wares.

Over 100 product category are on display.
