Over 16,000 runners expected for the 7th edition of marathon

Coimbatore : The 7th edition of the Coimbatore Marathon scheduled for October 6, is expected to draw 16,000 runners from all walks of life across the country.

The theme for this year is “We Are More,” highlighting the contribution of the event towards the city, fitness and the cause,

Announcing the launch of Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon powered by Elgi Equipments, the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF) in a release said that registration for the event had begun from Tuesday.

Since inception, the event has helped spread awareness and support those who are fighting cancer and over the past 6 years, funds raised from the event have contributed to the activities of CCF impacting the lives of hundreds of survivors and their families, Foundation Managing Trustee T Balaji said in the release.

The event comprises a Half Marathon [21.1 KM], a 10 KM run and a 5 KM run/walk and the registration fee for the Half Marathon is Rs.1,000, for 10 KM run is Rs.900 while for the 5 KM run/walk it is Rs. 600, he said..

Prize money amounting to Rs. 2.7 lakh will be presented to the winners in separate categories for men and women and for the Half Marathon open category will be Rs. 25,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively for the first, second and third placeholders, and for the 10 KM open category, the prize money will be Rs.15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively.

For Veterans, aged 45 years and above, the prize money is Rs. 15,000, Rs.10,000 and Rs.5,000 for Half Marathon and Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,000 for the 10 KM run.
