Highway robbery attempt in the garb of IT officials, one held

Coimbatore : Police on Wednesday nabbed a member of a group of four, impersonating as IT officials and attempting to rob two brothers transporting clothes to Kerala near Madukkarai on the outskirts.

According to police, the brothers Moideen and Faisal of Malappuram in Kerala were taking clothes worth Rs.1.73 lakh in a car for sales in their area around 5.30 PM.

A gang of four followed them in a car and waylaid and introduced themselves as officials from Income Tax department.

After noticing that the car contained only clothes, they tried to leave. But the brothers managed to catch one Ravikumar, as other three escaped.

Ravikumar was handed over to police and preliminary inquiry revealed the identity of his accomplices as Vicky, Sathish and Kumar all hailing from Theni.

Police are on the look out for the trio and interrogating Ravikumar.
