Agricultural students provide training to farmers

Coimbatore- The final-year students from the Amrita School of Agricultural Sciences in Arasampalayam took part in a Rural Agricultural Work Experience Program. On January 30, 2024, they organized demonstrations in Vadasithur village to educate local farmers about the latest advancements in agriculture. Students introduced the innovative single rhizome technology developed by the Indian Institute of Spices Research Center to farmers. They also promoted awareness of transitioning to millet cultivation, provided guidance on preventing wilting and nematode infestation through sucker treatment, and conducted soil sampling to analyze the soil’s nutrient content. Both farmers from Vadasithur and final-year students pursuing BSc (Hons.) in Agriculture participated in these demonstrations. The program, conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sudheesh Manalil, the College Dean and with the assistance of group facilitators Dr. Priya R, Dr. S Parthasarathy, and Dr. VR Mageshen aimed to raise awareness and empower local farmers. Keerthana, Navya, Sai Shreya, Aardra, Sivani, Aiswarya, Devika, Gopika, Kaaviya, Sai Shobana, Sonish, Prithviraj, Adithyan, and Nithin were the students who were involved in the event.
