The 19th edition of the Pathivugal South Indian Short Film Festival was conducted at PSG College of Arts and Science on Monday. The event, organised by the Department of Visual Communication and Electronic Media, brought together student filmmakers from across South India.

The festival was presided over by M. Senguttuvan, Principal of PSG College of Arts and Science, in the presence of College Secretary T.Kannaian. G. Radha, Head of the Visual Communication Department,welcomed the gathering.
Noted filmmaker T.J. Gnanavel, director of Jai Bhim and Vettaiyan, Rajeshwar Kalisamy, director of Kudumbasthan, and film editor Anil Krish were the chief guests at the event.

Student filmmakers from 60 colleges across South India had submitted their works for the festival. After a rigorous selection process, 14 short films were chosen for screening.

Addressing the gathering, T.J. Gnanavel commended the students for their ability to reflect social realities through cinema. “Short films made by college students today are of exceptional quality. Platforms like this festival serve as a vital encouragement for their creative pursuits,” he said.

Rajeshwar Kalisamy highlighted the evolving narrative styles of student filmmakers. “The younger generation’s approach to storytelling is dynamic and refreshing. Their films reflect new perspectives, making festivals like this an important space for discovery,” he observed.

Following the screenings, awards were presented in several categories, including Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematographer, Best Screenplay, and Best Dialogue.

The festival continues to serve as a significant platform for emerging filmmakers, fostering creative expression and industry recognition.
