Members of the Social Justice Movement staged a demonstration near the district collectorate on Wednesday demanding that importance be given to the cases related to the prevention of atrocities against certain castes, and untouchability in Coimbatore.

N. Pannerselvam, the president of the movement, alleged that conspiracy is on in the district to dismiss all the cases under the prevention of atrocities act that are pending in the district courts. He further claimed that even the police are not taking cases related to the act and instead, are filing counter-cases against those who are trying to file the complaints.

Accusing the special government lawyer for not handling the SC/ST cases properly, Pannerselvam, further added that the administration is not appointing government lawyers despite laws to the contrary.

As many as 15 members of the movement participated in the demonstration and submitted a petition in this regard to District Collector Archana Patnaik
