Self immolation attempt by 65-year old

A 65-year old woman today attempted immolate herself at the District Collectorate demanding an equal share in her husband’s property, which was given to the first wife and children.

Kannammal alias Ramlat of Madukkarai, came to the Collectorate on Friday morning and started dousing herself with kerosene that she had brought in a can. After dousing herself she attempted to light a match stick, Police said.

However, some students who were present there stopped her attempt and handed her over to the Police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the first wife and children of her deceased husband,
had taken the property and a Court here had given them the possession.

Since she was in need of money to make ends meet, she had approached the
District Collector. And, as a last resort had attempted to end her life, Police said.
