Are you looking at giving your home a makeover? Are you bored of the same old grey monotone in your office? Are you itching to spice up your old decor? Look no further… As we have stepped into the new year, let’s transform our surroundings and spruce up the areas for positive energies and crackling vibes. So what kind of decor trends will become talking points in the year 2016?

Experts opine that refurbished antique decor furniture; earthy tones with a dash of colour; natural weaves; self-textures but photo colour paint effect wallpaper; mix match upholstered lounge chairs; bench style dinning; antique trunk in distress look and pastels, will rule the roost in the year 2016. “The trend of opting for modern designs but with a preference towards natural materials and earthy tones will be a trend that will become a talking point and enter the lives of the people this year,” says Asim Merchant, partner, Red Blue & Yellow.

However, whatever the season, opting for eco-friendly materials and pressing for sustainability when redrawing your area will be vital. “I am looking to redo my living area in the summers and my first priority is to ensure that I allow my home to breathe. I will make sure that I opt for hybrid designs that use less energy, energy-efficient lamps and other eco-friendly designs and materials,” says Sheela Pandey, a home-maker.

The focus earlier was to put up a home that is entertaining and impresses others; however; this year emphasis will be on reconnecting and re-energising new spaces. People will ditch the desire for a ‘perfect’ home and opt for a cozy and comfortable space.

2016 will be a year where people opt for non-conventional designs, where emphasis will not be to stick to one design or look but to create a more personalised and ‘me’ space.
