Union Environment and Forest Minister, Prakash Javdekar today made it clear that there was no political motive in awarding the Padma Vibhushan to Tamil film star, Rajnikanth.

It was purely on merit and in recognition of his acting and contribution to the film field, and there was no politics in it, Javdekar told reporters here.

On the fate of Jallikattu, the Minister said that the Supreme Court had granted only a stay on it, and not quashed the notification. The Government would put forward its case, which could lead to lifting of ban.

Javdekar, here on a two-day visit to attend some functions, said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was expected to address a public meeting here on February 2. Works for it were going on in full swing to make it a grand success, he added.

Javdekara also said that he would be meeting captains of the industry and agriculture
sectors on Friday as part of a pre-budget exercise. To a question on large number of whales getting washed ashore in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, the Minister said that these types of incidents occurred in various parts of the world and two committees, with research experts, have been formed to look into the issue.
