The talks with regard to wage increase for hosiery workers in Tirupur remained inconclusive today. The next round of talks was scheduled for February 5.

In the backdrop of demand for 100 per cent increase in the wages for more than a lakh workers, a meeting was held between the representatives of five major maufacturers’ associations and the joint committee of eight trade unions there.

The managements offered an increase of 10 per cent in the first year and three per cent each for the subsequent three years, sources in the Tirupur Exporters Association said.

However, the Union representatives argued that the demand for 100 per cent increase was based on the minimum wages fixed by the Centre.

As there was no breakthrough, the meeting was fixed for February 5 to arrive at a possible settlement.
