Three youngsters from Edayarpalayam in Coimbatore are into rescue work of wild visitors, conservation of environment and planting trees.

N. Parthiban (33), Imran Khan (30) and Mohammed Nawab Hussain (28), business entrepreneurs from Edayarpalayam, Poombukar Nagar, in Coimbatore are rescuing rose ringed parakeets from pet shop and road side sellers, rescuing monitor lizard, wild rabbits from hunters and shopkeepers, and planting trees across Coimbatore.

Three of them are childhood friends, and they spent most of their time in their farm land near Pannimadai on the city outskirts. They played cricket and other games in their leisure time, after business.

When they chose to do something for the development of the city, they chose conservation as their goal. And, with the help of local neighbourhood friends they met R. Mohammed Saleem, President of Environment Conservation Group (ECG) in 2013. After the meeting the trio got to learn about various situations such as man-animal conflict, Wildlife Schedule Act, rare species and species under threat.

On tip off from people, they started rescuing rose ringed parakeets from Ukkadam pet shops and other areas in the city. Then with the awareness gained from ECG, they collected saplings, distributed them to public and sometimes then themselves planted the saplings around the city. Their main aim is to plant thousands of tree saplings on Thadagam Road and revive the green cover of Coimbatore.

Speaking to Covai Post, Parthiban said his next step, along with his associates, was to create awareness among village people about wildlife preservation and protection of forest.

Parthiban organises treks, and trips to the forest for conservation orientation and he is open to institutions contacting him to organise such trips, conservation and rescue work classes for the students.

He can be contacted at 98434-09000.
